Boot Rap on Bootstrapping

// March 24th, 2006 // 1 Comment » // General, Web tech

There are some really cool things going on locally here in Austin with the Bootstrap Austin group. One of which is the Boot Rap series presented by local boostrapped company HearThis.com. The latest in the series is an interview from SXSW with Bootstrap Network founder Bijoy Goswami about the basics of bootstrapping.

Flavor Flav & my new bling bling

// March 22nd, 2006 // No Comments » // General

Finally got my knee fixed yesterday, what fun! The surgery went well and I’m still pretty drugged up. My PCL was totally destroyed but they didn’t have to do anything to my ACL which was a surpise.

The cool thing about it is I have some new bling bling – my Stryker Pain Pump 2. It might be the best thing ever invented. Basically it has a small catheter that is inserted in my hip and pumps in the good stuff. I wear it around my neck and can even hit the ‘extra relief’ button to get an instant fix. What’s not to like?

testing 1…2…3… – call for submissions

// March 17th, 2006 // No Comments » // Fashion & Tees

We are gearing up for a test run on our production process and in doing so need some art. Seeing that we have been gathering a large group of super talented artists on myspace it seems like a no brainer to tap into that talent and put together some limited edition tees.

If you are interested just head on over to our myspace profile or email us. Deadline is March 31st and we will be posting submissions on our profile.

Good luck!

Getting high on code crack

// March 17th, 2006 // No Comments » // Mass Customization, Web tech

Found an interesting post by Kathy Sierra at her Creating Passionate Users blog. The post is regarding myspace and the concept of real-time development cycles used by myspace among others and how those fast dev cycles could become addictive.

“I wonder if quick release cycles become almost addictive to the end users… we’re so used to thinking of how upset they’ll be when we change things, but clearly this is a different (and frickin’ HUGE) group of users who not only don’t mind the change–they THRIVE on it. Perhaps those quick releases are a little like quick fixes. Code Crack.”

I kinda like the idea of code crack. Seems like this theme of users running the show is getting deeper than just the content level and now even into the actual bloodstream of the site/business/etc. It was a topic we hear over and over again at SXSWi and hopefully we can build on that with the launch of Innertee. I’m also hoping the podcast of the ‘How to Create Passionate Users‘ panel at SXSWi becomes available soon – I missed that one and it would be interesting to hear what was discussed.

Jammin with the Robo Theremin Band

// March 16th, 2006 // No Comments » // General

Yeah, we’re that cool. As mentioned before we got to jam with the world famous Robo Theremin Band of the Austin Robot Group. I’ve uploaded a short 3gp clip I took with my phone. Who knew they would be on hand in the back dungeon of the Elk’s Lodge ready to rock out?

SXSW Interactive recap

// March 15th, 2006 // No Comments » // General, Web tech

Well for the past four days we have been running around all over downtown Austin as part of SXSW Interactive. Overall it was a pretty great experience and I’m freaking tired. Here are a few highlights:

Jim Coudal of Coudal Partners and Jason Fried of 37signals started it off with their opening remarks. Their informal chat seemed to set the tone for most of the panels we attended. Start small, start with less and things always change. There was a definate attitude of DIY throughout the entire conference and the make-up of the panelist seemed to back that up.

The Five Most Important Startup Decisions panel on Sunday morning was one of the better panels of the weekend. All of the panelist had been approached by Google at one point in time and all but one rejected them. It was just good to hear some of the mistakes and smart things they did to get to where they are at today. Also very funny that one of the panelist Joel Spolsky mentioned a bonus start-up tip on his blog.

I’m sure I can think of 100 more things but I’m still pretty tired. Walking around all weekend with a massive leg brace is not something I recomend. But I do recomend robot parties at the Elk’s Lodge. Those ROCK!

And now for something completely different

screen cap

Just a sneak peak of the overview site that should be up in the next few days. Its funny how easy it is to come up with tag line and market text ideas that seem like a no-brainer for other people’s businesses but when its your baby it gets tougher.

After hours of staring at my laptop screen I think we have something that makes sense. I’m sure I’ll hate it tomorrow but right now I’m pretty happy with what we’ve created. There is still a ton of work to do but it feels like we are taking a step in the right direction.
