Two tears in a bucket…

// April 19th, 2006 // No Comments » // Web tech

A Photobucket that is. Was just over at Techcrunch reading the latest post on Photobucket and their quiet climb to one of the fastest and largest sites on the web. According to the Photobucket site they are above Myspace & Wikipedia as the fastest growing brand on the web (Neilsen).

This brings up an interesting point about the community space as well. Last month at SXSW Interactive we participated in the Geek Lunch with Jake McKee and he made a comment about the number of communities one user can really be a part of and that supporting or enhancing already established communities might be the way to go in the future. I think Photobucket with over 14 million users is proof that its a valid strategy and you don’t have to be the most popular kid in school to play with the big guys.

Update – Pete Cashmore just posted a great overview of all the companies that feed the myspace beast – great stuff!

Minipreneurs strike back

inqbox

Its been a while between posts but we are really cranking away on all of the finishing touches for Innertee. In the meantine I saw this on one of my, and just about everyone else’s, favorite buzzword creating sites Springwise and thought I would share. They have recently updated their minipreneur trend with an interesting concept that really mirrors what Innertee is about.

inQbox, which stands for incubation in a box, is an uncluttered store in a Singapore mall that is stacked with well-lit, attractive shelving units. It rents out ‘boxes’ to small businesses and artists, providing them with retail and gallery space, and taking care of the daily hassle of retail. Prices for a box start at SGD 80 (EUR 40/USD 50) per month, depending on size and location within the store. Vendors are selected carefully, and the store is popular with shoppers for its unique array of wares. And lots of shoppers means valuable mini-real estate, so there’s often a long waiting list for boxes.

Inqbox looks like a really cool concept and I can see a million different ways this idea could be modified for different markets. Interesting how online retail is now influencing traditional ‘brick & mortar’ retail even from a form-factor approach.

Wild duck monkeys

We have a new tag line apparently. I was just trying to translate a blog post about Innertee that was writen in Swedish (why does Babelfish not offer this?) and finally found SYSTRANBox. After dropping in the link I was able to kinda sorta read what the post was about. I’m still not sure if it was a positive review but the coolest thing was how it translated our nifty tag line:

Where articles wild duck monkey pair electrical become one

I mean, we are morons for not coming up with that one. Really, who doesn’t love a ‘wild duck monkey pair electrical’ anyway?
