innerTee daily t-shirt giveaway

// July 30th, 2006 // 2 Comments » // General

As we start opening up the site for user testing in the next few weeks we wanted to do something that gives us some good feedback and gets people excited about mixing & sharing on innerTee. So after a strategic planning session (uno mas cerveza) we came up with a ground breaking idea.

Free t-shirts…

What a stretch right? There’s more to it I promise. For everyday we spend in closed testing (I hate that) we will give away a free t-shirt. 6 days of testing? 6 free t-shirts (I wish). 600 days of testing? 600 shirts (ouch). The idea is we will post a screen shot of a specific part of the site on the blog showing how it works or what we are trying to fix and show a shirt that has been created using the site.

We will then give that shirt away. Rocket science eh? Of course winners will be invited to test the actual site and we really just want to make testing something more fun and hopefully build a better site because of it. So let us know what you think, good or bad, we are really excited to show you what we have been building the past 5 months.

35 flavors of innerTee

innerTee colors

We have finally settled on the ink colors we will have available day one for element submissions. I’ve updated the submission page and added downloadable templates in both eps and svg formats. Also included are the sizing guides for figuring out what size to make your elements or just to get an idea of the actual print size.

We plan on adding more colors and even some specialty inks (glitter, metallic, etc) but in the mean time let us know if you think we missed anything obvious. More to come!

Update – lovely spelling errors have been corrected so you can actually get to the templates (thanks Dan!). All those in charge of spelling have been sacked.

illustrationclass.com

For those of you, like me, who are always trying to learn new design techniques I’ve found a goldmine. Von Glitschka (aka the Vonster) has a new design blog with some great tutorials called illustrationclass.com. Many of them are walk throughs for client work he’s done but there are also some great creative exercises. These are super helpful for anyone wanting to learn more about illustration or just brush up on your skills.

My Freedamn

Getting the T-shirt 360 book from my wife this weekend got me thumbing through some of the other t-shirt books I have. Two that HAVE to be mentioned are part of the My Freedamn series by Rin Tanaka. Volume 1&2 are basically a visual history of the t-shirt from World War II through the 80’s. Volume 3&4 cover biker art and those wacky hippies of the 60’s. I’ve only got volume 1&2 at the moment and am hunting down the others. They are a bit pricy but for anyone that’s a t-shirt design freak (like me) they are well worth it.

You can purchase volumes 1&2 over at Surfstyle, a really kickass site dedicated to sharing skate + surf art & culture. (image courtesy of Surfstyle)

t-shirts 360

My awesome wife just gave me this for my b-day and it was too good not to share. Its one of the best t-shirt books I’ve seen in a while and what’s better than 400+ pages of t-shirt designs!

myspace is really really big

myspace friends

Was just reading the other day how myspace is the now the number one destination site in the US. It is a massive site but I think we are just starting to see the power of connected networks and what community building can do. Our profile is 99% artists and all organic and we’ve gotten a ton of value as well as made some cool relationships from the people we’ve met on myspace. I think for innerTee its a nobrainer but its amazing to see how many people just shrug it off as a place for ‘teens’ to get into trouble. Those teens (aka people younger than you) are going to run this place soon and if myspace is any indication its not going to be your father’s internet (or Al Gore’s for that matter).

DemoCamp Austin

DemoCamp

Its on! Looks like we are going to attempt our first DemoCamp here in Austin. Sponsored by Bootstrap Austin this is a really cool way to demo your application/product/service and have some general conversation around what you are doing. DemoCamp is NOT a sales presentation and the best rule of DemoCamp is NO POWERPOINT!!!

I love it – real people with real products talking about something they love. I hope to be one someday! :)

I think the barcamp site is down right now but I’ll put up a wiki page and links as soon as I can.

Update – DemoCamp Austin is on the wiki!

innerTee vs HipHipUK

// July 12th, 2006 // No Comments » // Fashion & Tees

OK not really, but a fight sounds much more interesting than a few t-shirt nerds talking about… t-shirts.

Anyway, Adam over at HipHipUK has posted a two part series on communtiy and its application by a few well-known t-shirts sites. I posted a response and Adam was kind enough to post it up on their blog as part 3 of the series, very cool of him.

Take a look, there’s some good info on both sides and I think any discussion around this is helpful for anyone looking to startup a new apparel label or retail site.

wallspankers.com – sticker swap community

wallspankers

Found this link over at Design is Kinky a while back but just now got around to checking it out. Pretty cool! Wallspankers.com is a project of MWN Graphics and is a self described ‘inernational sticker swap & graffiti community’. They have some really cool artists profiles and a kickass graffiti gallery posted. Wallspankers produces a quarterly zine (both PDF & print) for you to create stickers from and ’spank’ them all over town. The deadline for the next issue is Sept 30th so get on it!

Update – Issue One is now available for download. There is a 17mb screen rez version and a 62mb print rez version. Sweet!!
